Journal of Marketing – Research Development Workshop: An event to be remembered

The School's Management Sciences and Marketing Division hosted a two-day research development workshop at Alliance Manchester Business School on September 12-13.

The event involved plenary talks from high-profile speaker team associated with the Journal of Marketing – including Editor-in-Chief Christine Moorman, co-editor Robert Palmatier and associate editors – followed by workshop-style activities in which participants had opportunities to develop and pitch their research ideas to the editorial team and other participants.

The theme of the workshop was “Developing and Publishing Research about Real-World Marketing Questions”.

Main organiser Dr Matti Jaakkola, Senior Lecturer in Marketing Management and Strategy, commented: "We were very happy to see close to 120 academics, from professors to advanced PhD students, from all parts of the UK and across Europe attend the workshop. It provided a good opportunity for Alliance MBS to showcase its brand new facilities and strengthen its research network. I am confident that the participants will find the ideas, tools, and connections made with other scholars during the workshop useful in their research, when striving to publish their work in the leading journals such as Journal of Marketing."

"The workshop format worked extremely well and, overall, the event was very well received by the participants. Special thanks go to Journal of Marketing's Editor-in-Chief Christine Moorman for her remarkable efforts before and during the workshop, as well as for choosing Alliance MBS to host this wonderful event. Extremely helpful colleagues at the Management Sciences and Marketing (MSM) Division, plenary speakers, discussion leaders, and the School's events team also deserve a lot of credit for the event's success. I also want to thank Professor Ken McPhail and Heads of MSM Division Luis Araujo and Jamie Burton for the moral and financial support, which made the event possible. Finally, thank you to Head of School Professor Fiona Devine for delivering the opening remarks."
