If you're looking for Master's degree funding, you should research your options as soon as possible. There is a range of support available with the postgraduate loan, bursaries and scholarships.
Funding Opportunities for Master's Degrees
There are a number of Master's funding options for our courses and these will vary depending on whether you’re a student from the UK, EU or an international student from outside the EU.
Please note: only one scholarship award can be allocated per student. If you receive an external scholarship award or postgraduate loan that only covers part of your tuition fee, you can still be considered for an Alliance MBS scholarship.
Master's student loan for UK students
If you are a prospective Master's student from the UK there are potential sources of funding available. The UK Government has confirmed that Postgraduate Loans will be offered to UK students starting a master's course in the 2024/25 academic year.

Manchester Alumni Scholarship Scheme
The Master's Scholarship is offered to students and alumni of The University of Manchester enrolling on one of the Business School's taught master's courses in September 2023.

Master's degree bursaries
The bursaries are aimed at helping students from underrepresented groups access postgraduate education, which is why you must meet a number of criteria to be eligible. The 2022 bursary scheme is now closed and applications are no longer being accepted. It will reopen in March 2023.

North American Foundation Awards for Postgraduate Study at the University of Manchester (NAFUM) Master's Scholarship
For applicants from the USA, there are scholarships of up to $7,500 available as a contribution towards tuition fees. This award can be held alongside other awards. To find out more please contact Anuli Iloabachie >>

BAföG funding
German applicants can apply for BAföG funding in the form of a grant, subsidy, state or bank loan.
Master's scholarships for UK/EU/international students 2023 entry
We have a number of partial scholarships across all of our courses.
Am I eligible?
All UK/EU/international applicants with an offer of a place to study on one of the School’s Master's courses are eligible.
How do I apply?
There is no scholarship application process. If you are eligible you will be automatically considered.
What are the criteria?
Decisions are made on merit rather than financial need. Scholarships are awarded if you:
- Are able to demonstrate excellent academic performance
- Are on track to obtain, or have graduated with a minimum high 2.1 or 1st UK undergraduate degree or overseas equivalent
- Have previously studies at a University with a strong academic reputation and ranking
- Have the potential to contribute and enrich all aspects of the Master's programme and the diverse academic and cultural profile of the Master's class.
When are they announced?
Scholarships are awarded within the selection stage and will be announced on or before the decision deadline date. Awards are subject to availability and may not be available in the later stages. Please note that we will only contact you if you have been successfully selected to receive a scholarship.
Sport Scholarships
Developed to meet the needs of students balancing studying a degree with achieving their aspirations to continue moving up their sporting pathway.
Scholarship Package
- Up to £1500 towards training or competition expense

Criteria
- A University of Manchester full-time/part-time undergraduate/postgraduate student OR a prospective student who has received a conditional/unconditional offer and is commencing study in that same year.
- Competing at a minimum of Junior National level on a recognised player pathway for your sport (which must be a Talent-funded Sport England/UK Sport recognised sport, or equivalent for Overseas applications).
- Be contracted to a club in a semi/full level professional league or competition at a national/international level
- An ambassador for your sport with a commitment to supporting the development and performance of the relevant University Sports Club for your sport (in an agreed capacity)
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to striving for personal excellence which needs to be defined in this application.
- Able to demonstrate Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound (SMART) sporting and educational goals which need to be defined in your application.
Information for Applicants
The window for scholarship applications for the 2022-23 academic year has now closed. The application window for 2023-24 will open in early 2023.
Master's scholarships for Accounting and Finance programmes for UK/EU students 2023 entry
We are offering five scholarships across the four Accounting and Finance courses with a value of £10,000 towards the cost of the tuition fee. The scholarships will be awarded in line with our scholarship deadlines so early application is advisable.
Who are the scholarships available to?
All UK/EU applicants who hold an offer of a place to study on one of the following courses:
- MSc Accounting
- MSc Accounting and Finance
- MSc Finance
- MSc Quantitative Finance
What is the application process?
All applicants who hold an offer will automatically be considered for a scholarship. There is no scholarship application process.

External awards
Applications for September 2024 are open from October 2023.
If you receive an external scholarship award or postgraduate loan which only covers part of your tuition fee, you will still be considered for an Alliance MBS scholarship.
Fulbright Scholarships
For applicants from the USA only and includes tuition and living expenses. The 2024-2025 competition deadline is Tuesday, October 10 2023 at 5 pm Eastern time.
Chevening Scholarships
For high calibre international students with the personal intellect and interpersonal qualities needed for leadership.
Applications are now open for 2024/25 and will close on 7 November 2023.
Commonwealth Scholarships
For students from a developing Commonwealth country.
DAAD scholarship
German applicants can apply for a DAAD scholarship.
