What do 270 students representing 45 nationalities and 23 industries have in common? They graduated from the Manchester Global Part-time MBA in December 2017!
The Global MBA winter graduation welcomed students from all over the world to the frosty streets of Manchester for a reception at Christie’s bistro – an 1890s high-ceilinged hall adorned with statues, bookshelves and sofas. Guests enjoyed a selection of festive treats and caught up with classmates and staff, before donning their caps to attend the graduation ceremony at the University’s ceremonial Whitworth Hall.

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Colette Fagan with an address from Professor Stuart Hyde. Xavier Duran, Interim MBA Director presented the graduands with their hard-earned degree certificates, and a number of awards were given for exceptional performance: Best Overall Student (Reena Ghelani); Best Project (James Brown, Reena Ghelani, Akbar Khurshid Khan, Srinivasa Kovvuri and Willem Meyer); and Best Individual Project (Lamya Aubert).
We caught up with double award winner Reena Ghelani, recipient of Best Overall Student and Best Project, to hear some reflections on her Global MBA experience at Alliance Manchester Business School:
“The MBA journey has been tough yet extremely rewarding. I've strengthened existing skills such as project management and finance whilst developing new ones such as negotiation and strategy. It has been an incredible experience working with such a diverse and multi-cultural cohort. The main challenge has been juggling work commitments and personal life around studying, however, the format has been manageable and flexible with workshops and online lectures.
“The highlights have to be the unique Negotiation Skills workshop, where we had to negotiate on the spot, the Managerial Economics case studies, and the International Business Studies workshop, with its hands-on approach and interactive discussions. I've also enjoyed the balance between individual and group exercises, with the chance to work and network with so many different people around the globe.
“Our group project was 'A study of Non-Household Consumer Switching in England’s Water Market'. The UK Government decided to deregulate the water market from April 2017, allowing non-household consumers (businesses) to switch water retail supplier from this date onwards. We looked into the effect and impact of switching, working with and on behalf of Ofwat (the water regulator for England and Wales).
“Overall it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I've made some good friends along the way!”
