The Highlights of the Year

Another academic year has finished. The gap between first and second year is massive – you have more group projects, your tasks become more complicated and you study subjects at a deeper level. Despite the difficulties that I have faced throughout the year, looking back at them again I understand how much ITMB is the right path for me. Entering the course in September 2016, not knowing what is lying ahead of me, I would have never imagined that I would get to work with top employees delivering real life projects and giving them ideas that could be implemented into the business.

One of the biggest highlights of the year is, of course, the employability showcase. It is probably the best way to meet employees from big firms and speak with them about what they do, how you can apply for internships, and simply make new connections. You get a chance to experience what presenting to professionals feels like and what prepares you to the realities in the business world.

However, there is another side of the course. The social side brings you even closer with your current friends and allows you to meet people from all years. We call ourselves an ITMB family, which is impossible not to notice! We try to make socials that suit the majority of the course, encouraging everyone to participate and have a lot of fun. Seeing everybody get together and enjoy themselves is an amazing feeling, especially when you’re the one in charge of the society’s committee.

But when it comes to the end of the year, especially if you are an international student or a student living in a different city, what do you do to make your year unforgettable and different from the previous one? I try to spend as much time as I can with my friends, having a sleep over at their house and staying up till 7am, going for a walk to Media City at midnight, eating out a lot and simply going to cinema. When you are done with your assignments and exams you suddenly realise how much you have missed during the stressful time! Hence, you immediately try to catch up with your favourite TV series, get back to your normal gym routine, and hang out with friends that disappeared for the same time period as you did.

Oh, and how could I forget that! You take your ‘professional photographer’ friends, pick a day and explore the city while taking nice Instagram pictures 🙂

It’s been a fantastic year full of new acquaintances, unforgettable memories, new places and a lot of gained skills. I cannot wait to go back to Manchester in September and start the final year of my studies!
