The worst thing about having few exams in an exam period is the fact that you finish your exams before everyone else does. I was unlucky to finish around four days before my friends and had no one to share my post-exam celebrations with. Instead, I had four days of isolation with four seasons of Misfits and 16GB of movies. I’m glad they’re over though!
I have been everything else but productive the last weeks, by attending pretty much all socials I come across and are invited to. This period is generally known as ‘Refreshers week’, just one of those excuses to party (like Bonfire Night and St Patrick’s Day), but a great week for reminiscing with friends and course mates I haven’t been able to hang out with for the last two months.
Despite general Manchester-in-January-weather, there has also been time for football. I was asked to join a friend’s team in a School of MACE (Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering) tournament with 32 teams participating. After hours of kicking, we came 1st and were congratulated by staff from the School of MACE. Next tournament is in London on the 23rd of February. I’ll keep you posted on that.
Career-wise I feel like I have done enough now in the pursuit of a summer internship. I don’t want to spoil anything yet, in case I jinx my hopes and predictions. My suggestion to all 1st year students is to complete ALL applications to ALL companies you would like to apply for during next summer and have them ready for submission once applications are open. It saves a lot of time, and the chances of getting an offer are better than they are close to the application deadlines (as spaces fill up continuously).
That’s really all I have to say for now. Yes, January is considered to be the most boring month of the year!
