May 2017: Why Manchester?

Why Manchester, has been an immutable question ever since I first sent my application through. Even back then I did not have a proper answer as to why I wished to join this university. My selection was influenced by the popularity, rankings, alumni, student feedbacks etc. Three years down the line, I am writing to validate the best decision I ever took. Apart from learning new things each day, I am extremely glad as I was able to discover a lot about myself as well.

With a course like mine, students have the flexibility to choose from core modules, and the rest from the pool of alternative modules offered. If timetable permits, students are allowed to pick course from other schools like humanities and languages as well. This way, you could qualify as a business graduate fluently communicating in Korean or with a politics module on your transcript. Doing a Management (Accounting & Finance) degree along with modules in e-business and e-marketing increased my awareness about the emerging e-commerce world. With an extremely supportive infrastructure, your energies are the input, your passion is your drive and the sky’s the limit!!

A Russell Group university, employers seek graduates that are molded in the classrooms of this great institution. Ever semester the university also arranges massive Careers Fairs that gives students an opportunity to meet prospective employers. These are complemented by frequent on campus company presentations for networking. At plenty of these events, I got a chance to interact with recent graduates working in the industry to get useful insights.

The Grad Fair at Armitage hosted 100+ employers stalls

The Stellify program run by the university, focuses on a broader developmental process rather than mere class room learning. Encompassing an array of activities, students are encouraged to bring out the best in them. Participating in several activities and societies I was able to refine my skills with each experience.
Diversity in cultures always stands out and stands strong. It is delightful to see people from all walks of life and backgrounds gather together to participate and celebrate in harmony. The multicultural environment enhances awareness and leads us on a path of being global citizens. Be it cultural fundraising evenings or events like Reclaim the Night march, there is always a way to make your voice

Attended Malaysian Society’s M-Night 2017. An outstanding show!!

An amazingly networked city, Manchester is always up for surprising you. Here, you will always find something that piques your interest, and if not, with the amount of ongoing activities you are bound to develop an interest soon. Very few cities are able to provide such a variety within in local boundaries, but Manchester is capable of anything. Whether it is going for a musical at the grand Palace Theatre, watching the finals at Etihad Stadium, going for a swim in the Aquatic Centre, attending the Bonfire Night at Platt Fields Park, joining the Chinese New Year Parade, enjoying the breathtaking view from Cloud 23, heading to Heaton Park for the annual Parklife, you have a variety of events that will keep you engaged.
Reflecting on the values I harnessed over the past three years, I am soon to be the M-A-N-C-H-E-S-T-E-R graduate (Methodical, Assertive, Negotiative, Considerate, Honest, Ethical, Social, Trustworthy, Eloquent and Responsible). While at Manchester, you are not attending a university, you’re in for a lifetime experience.
