Hello there, my name is Rei and I am currently doing my master’s degree in Management, at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester. It has always been one of my dreams to study abroad at a well-known university, and finally I can tick that off from my list in 2018. In this blog post, I am going to tell you a bit about my experience living and studying for the first few months in Manchester.
I arrived into Manchester a few weeks before my course started, which allowed me to adapt to the city, and learn about the culture and heritage of the city. This proved a useful endeavour, as it permitted me to settle in really well. During my first few weeks, I made many friends from different countries. It was kind of surprising yet exciting for me to experience the diversity that Manchester has to offer. One tip: keep an open mind and be warm with everybody, attend events and socialise as much as possible because your first month is the easiest time to make new friends. Furthermore, I also have a part-time job as a barista at a local coffee shop, which allows me to work during the weekends. Based on my personal experience, having a part time job is always beneficial for students alike because besides making extra money, it equips me with some transferable skills that may be beneficial in the future as well.
As mentioned before, I am currently studying MSc Management at Alliance Manchester Business School. This particular program, which is ranked 20th in QS Management Masters Rankings 2018, is designed as a stepping stone for people from all backgrounds who want to excel in their future career or perhaps starting their own business later in life. During our first semester, we have four big modules; Financial and Management Accounting, Organisational Behaviour, Business Strategy, and Marketing, which I personally think are very informative and practical as well. Besides lectures, my class is also divided into smaller seminar groups where we can discuss real-life cases in more intimate settings.
To sum up, the first few months living in Manchester has been an unforgettable experience in my life. On top of that, I believe that the MSc Management program that I am currently doing plays big role in shaping my business mindset and opens many doors of opportunity for my future.
