Olga Ramirez Pilares, VP Academics, Class of 2017 reviews the recent Careers Expo
Good day everyone! It is a huge pleasure to write these lines for you; I hope you enjoy them!
A couple of weeks ago we started an amazing adventure called the Careers Expo – a great initiative organised by the Postgraduate Career Service (PCS) that provided us with valuable information about important companies in the United Kingdom.
At the beginning of the Careers Expo we had an incredible master class with Daniel Porot, who is considered one of Europe’s leading pioneers in career design and job hunting. In just one day, we learned more about approaching unpublished job opportunities and improving our interview, negotiation and networking skills. All of these tips are extremely helpful in our current day-to-day search for an internship.
Regarding company visits, we had many interesting presentations such as:
- Bupa and its passion for healthcare since 1947
- Tesco and its motto “Every Little Helps”
- Transport of Greater Manchester and its devotion to transport services (this was the first time that the company visited AMBS)
- AstraZeneca and its fervour for life sciences and innovation.
- Uber and its disruptive business model.
That’s not forgetting Hilti, Deloitte, HCL… Sorry if I forgot to mention your favourite one, but the list was huge!
For many of us, it was an indescribable experience to be in a session where we got to know more about our dream companies. We also had the opportunity to talk with some of their current employees. The result was fantastic!
And how about having lunch and learning more about a company? Well, we also enjoyed talking to important CEOs, directors and alumni during lunch time. Being in small groups encouraged high quality interactions and a great atmosphere. On the other hand, MBAs who preferred having a small talk earlier in the morning enjoyed a hot drink, a muffin and a good conversation with a member of the PCS team. They provided extremely comprehensive answers to our career-related questions.
