Alliance Manchester Business School and bath, body and beauty brand Soap & Glory will be teaming up to celebrate entrepreneurial women across the UK in 2017.
Soap & Glory, the fun, fabulous and feisty brand which is part of the Walgreens Boots Alliance family, will be working with the University’s Enterprise Centre to run an inspirational and motivational event for budding female entrepreneurs from across the UK to take business and life to the next level through powerful ideas and original thinking.
Taking place at the University of Manchester in May next year, the free all-day festival will be open to women who are considering setting up their own business or are in the early stages of doing so. The aim is to give girls the tools, contacts and resilience to thrive in a globally-connected world with heavy digital dominance and strong social pressures.
Lynn Sheppard, director of the Manchester Enterprise Centre said: “We’re delighted to be announcing this partnership on Women Entrepreneurship Day which celebrates, empowers, and supports women in business.
“Despite there being nearly 1.5 million women self-employed in the UK, the churn rate of women’s businesses in the UK is still high – meaning they start-up and close at a similar rate. This is something we need to change here and we’re excited to be doing this in Manchester – the home of pivotal movements like the Suffragettes and modern-day democracy.”
Lee Sargent, global brands director – bath, body and haircare, at Walgreens Boots Alliance said: “The Soap & Glory business was founded in 2006 by a maverick soaper-woman whose mission was to formulate fun, world-class quality beauty products that would give every girl the best bang for her beauty budget. Ten years on, and this idea transformed into a brand that is loved the world over.
“Our predominantly female team knows the challenges experienced by women in business and we can’t wait to share the secrets of our success with tomorrow’s movers and shakers.”
AMBS and Soap & Glory will produce a festival of knowledge that places emphasis on the strengths and challenges for female entrepreneurs as well as strategies to advocate women entrepreneurship. The programme will seamlessly blend academic theory, practitioner experience with inspirational stories from founders.
Further announcements will be made at the start of 2017.
