Manchester confirmed as top business school by REF 2014


The results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) confirm Manchester as one of the leading centres for business and management research in the UK.

MBS was ranked 2nd out of 101 submissions to Unit of Assessment 19 (Business and Management Studies) for research power (grade point average times number of staff submitted and on 4*/3* times number of staff submitted).

The other headlines are:

  • Overall research activity at 4*and 3* – 74%
  • Overall research activity at 4* – 37%
  • Outputs at 4* and 3* – 65.6%
  • Outputs at 4* 20.8%
  • Impact at 4* and 3*- 81.5%
  • Impact at 4* – 53.8%
  • Environment at 4* and 3* – 100%
  • Environment at 4* – 87.5%
