Professor of Innovation Policy and Strategy and Executive Director of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, Jakob Edler, has been elected President of the European Forum for Studies of Policies for Research and Innovation (Eu-SPRI).
The forum brings together the 15 leading European research and innovation policy institutes, including Manchester’s Institute of Innovation Research, to strengthen the community of researchers focusing on policy and governance in the field of knowledge creation and innovation.
Jakob, who will take up his new post in summer 2016, commented: “I am very proud to be elected President of Eu–SPRI. Eu-SPRI is essential for the community of academics whose core interest it is to understand the governance of science, technology and innovation and the particular role of the state in it.
“Research within Eu-SPRI links a number of academic fields and traditions. This inter-disciplinarity is essential, but at the same time a constant challenge, especially for the next generation of researchers.
This is why Eu-SPRI is so important, as it provides the means for intellectual debate and exchange within and across Europe.
“I see my election is foremost an appreciation of the role the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research plays within the policy oriented community and the dedication it has shown to support the Association. I would like to thank the general assembly of Eu-SPRI for the trust they show in me and the Institute. I am aware of the responsibility that comes with it to maintain and further strengthen the important role of Eu-SPRI for our community.”
