Professor Gary Davies comments on opening of shop to help cash strapped consumers

Manchester Business School’s Professor Gary Davies spoke to the BBC’s North West Tonight programme this week, following the launch of the country’s first-ever high street weekly payment store for new household goods with a social enterprise.

‘Our House’ in Oldham, is a partnership between Oldham Council and the FRC Group, a social enterprise where people will be able to use weekly payments to buy furniture, appliances and electrical items, with all the brands customers want and at the lowest cost.

The store is said to be an alternative for local people so they don’t have to rely solely on expensive payday loan companies or high interest stores.

Professor Davies, who is a professor of Corporate Reputation, welcomed the opening of the new shop in Oldham. He said the social enterprise is an innovative move which has the customer at its heart rather than shareholders and owners.
