Manchester - the city that has everything!

So...I am guessing that you are reading this because you want to know what it is like to study at the University of Manchester. I am hoping throughout the year I can give you an insight into what it like being part of this University and what fun things you can do around Manchester.

I want to tell you about what I have been getting up to this semester, both academically and socially. First, let me give you a little bit of background about me. My name is Natasha and I am studying for a Masters degree in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations (CIPD Accredited) at Alliance Manchester Business School. In July 2019, I graduated from the University of Manchester with an Undergraduate degree in Sociology. I enjoyed studying at the University of Manchester for my Undergraduate degree so it was an easy decision to do my Masters here also.

I am originally from Manchester and I love how many fun things there are to do here, making the decision to study here an easy one. When I found out that Alliance Manchester Business School offered the course I wanted, whilst being ranked highly both nationally and globally, I was very excited to do my Master's here. On the first day of my studies, it was great to see so many international student's who have chosen to study at AMBS. My course has a Whatsapp group where we can all communicate with each other, whether that be helping with work or arranging events for us to meet up at.

We are now coming to the end of semester 1 and the time has flown by. I have done 5 modules in semester 1 which are Workplace Research and Analysis, HRM Strategy and Practice, Multinationals and Comparative Employment Systems, Industrial Relations and CIPD module. My favourite module of the semester has been Workplace Research and Analysis as you learn about different research methods, which really prepares you for the dissertation that you do towards the end of the year. The CIPD course enables you to put the theory of Human Resource Management into practice which enables you to learn beneficial skills for a job in Human Resources. I attended a CIPD conference on the 7th November, where I was able to meet and attend talks of HRM professionals. I attended a talk on employees feeling valued in a company which was really interesting.

I would also like to tell you what I have been up to outside if University. Manchester is known for football, and as a keen Manchester United fan, I have been able to attend one of their games this season. I would also tell anyone who is interested in football to visit the stadium tours that football clubs host. I went to the Manchester United stadium tor and it was really interesting to learn about the history of the club. Also, there are many things to do in Manchester city centre. I have eaten out a few times in Manchester and really enjoyed a place called Tokyo Ramen. It is located in the Northern Quarter and the food there is amazing.

Throughout the year I will be keeping you up to date with the course and what fun things you can do in Manchester.
