The University of Manchester wins second CIMA Excellence Award

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) distinguishes The University of Manchester for its outstanding global contribution to the accounting profession at the CIMA Excellence Awards.

The University of Manchester has won two Awards at the second edition of the CIMA Excellence Awards; this year’s virtual ceremony took place on 10 December 2021.

The University was awarded the CIMA Global Excellence Award which recognises university partners that achieved the highest pass rates for CIMA exams. The Award recognises university partners that achieve CIMA pass rates above the global average over a 12-month period (1 Sept 2020 to 31 Aug 2021). This Global Prominence award celebrates the University achieving the most prominent pass rate at Operational Level exams globally.

The University also won the CIMA Prize-Winner Award, that recognises university partners that trained CIMA’s Top Students. Results of these students are based on CIMA case study exams taken in August and November last year and February and May this year. The University had top performing students in the Operational Case Study exam in May 2021.

The CIMA Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding academic partners, tuition providers and students who have made significant contributions to the accounting profession and the Institute over the past year. These awards highlight the high-quality of teaching, research, and learning in accounting education across the world.

These awards are a reflection of the hard work of colleagues from across the Accounting and Finance division at Alliance Manchester Business School, and the success of the BSc Business Accounting (the ‘Flying Start’ programme in partnership with PwC) and the BSc Accounting programme. Programme Director of BSc Accounting Jennifer Rose commented:

"We are again delighted to have won a CIMA Prize-Winner Award and CIMA Global Excellence Award. Our students have an excellent understanding of management accounting, so it is not a surprise that they have the most prominent pass rate at Operational Level exams globally, with top performing students in the Operational Case Study exam May 2021. We love working with CIMA and students have benefitted from this close relationship, with insights and case studies as well as guest speakers from the Institute."

Andrew Harding, FCMA, CGMA, Chief Executive – Management Accounting at The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, commented:

“The CIMA Excellence Awards honour institutions and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the accounting profession and worked tirelessly to enrich their students, providing them with the best possible education and prepare the next generation of accounting professionals. The CIMA Global Distinction Award and CGMA Campus of the Year Award received by The University of Manchester are a true testament of its commitment and dedication to building the future of our profession.”

The central award committee selected winners for the CIMA Prize-Winner Excellence Award, CIMA Global Excellence Award, and CGMA Campus of the Year Award based on CIMA exam performance in 2020 and 2021.
