Bookings Now Open for the Tenth Annual Manchester Enterprise School

The Manchester Enterprise School is a four day residential enterprise activity taking place this year on the Southern Edge of the Lake District at the Grange Hotel in Grange-over-Sands from Monday 2nd to Thursday 5th July 2018 for 30 postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers.

It is open to all Ph.D. students or researchers from any faculty and is an excellent opportunity to learn about enterprise and how to apply it to your work, whether you intend a career in academia, industry or start your own business. Many attendees have kept in touch on their return, several start their own business each year and almost all find themselves using their new skills.

The aim is for researchers in teams to create a business case for an idea they have fully explored during the course and the Lake District provides an excellent environment for business ideas, especially those with a social enterprise element. Problems exist such as seasonality, brain drain, unemployment, tourism (the good and bad elements they bring), pollution, farming and local produce, transport, water engineering and the nuclear industry nearby for example.

The experience is a highly interactive, group working environment, tutored by experts and guest entrepreneurs and you will also be speaking to real potential customers and businesses in the area for feedback to help shape your ideas.

For more details contact Dr Robert A. Phillips. Or to book your free place (transport also provided free) contact Elisa Harrocks, giving your name, school, course of study and a short paragraph as to why you would like a place and what you hope to gain from the experience. If selected, you will be required to pay a £50 deposit (cheque or cash) which will be refunded on attendance.
