Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) yesterday announced Alliance Manchester Business School as the building of the year for 2019.
Three hundred businesses attended the awards event, which saw Alliance Manchester Business School beat off stiff competition from four other finalists: Windmill Green, Tameside One, The Pavilion, and The Roof Gardens. The aim of the award is to recognise a building’s contribution to Greater Manchester in terms of construction and development.
Part of the University’s £1bn campus masterplan, the site underwent a complete refurbishment with new additions including new purpose-built lecture theatres, library and finance zone.
Commenting on the award win, Head of School Professor Fiona Devine said: “It was great to celebrate with colleagues, students and partners whilst recognising all the hard work that has been put in from Janine Ellis, Head of School Operations, and her team to see the redevelopment materialise. As we know however, the building does not make the School but the people that work in it to make it a great place for our students to learn.”
The School building was chosen by the Chamber’s Property and Construction Committee, which consists of 20 professionals from a range of businesses in the property and construction sector. They received many worthy entries for new buildings from across Greater Manchester and undertook site visits to determine the winner.
