Alexsandro Broedel joins Alliance MBS

Alexsandro Brodel has been appointed as Professor of Practice in Corporate Financial Reporting, starting 1 September 2018. Working in the Accounting and Finance Division, Alexsandro will be using his academic and professional expertise in Financial Reporting to contribute to the division’s teaching, research, and knowledge exchange events.

He is currently Group Executive Finance Director and Investor Relations Head of Itaú Unibanco in Brazil which he joined in 2012 as a Chief Accountant. Before joining Itau Unibanco, he was a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil. Alexsandro is actively engaged in academic research.  He is particularly interested in topics informing policy in relation to financial reporting standards

On his appointment and his interest in financial reporting standards, Alexsandro commented: “To fully appreciate the complexity of today’s financial markets and institutions we need both a rigorous theoretical framework and full understanding of actual practices and organizational arrangements. There is no better place to develop such an approach than Alliance MBS where Applied Thinking has always been a mantra.”

Head of Accounting and Finance, Professor Marie Dutordoir, welcomed Alexsandro to the School, saying “Alexsandro combines a strong academic background with extensive experience in policy-making. He will bring insights developed from both his academic and professional experience to students, thereby allowing them to connect what is taught in the classroom with real-world policy issues.”

Alexsandro is also a Board Member at  IRB Brasil Resseguros, IIRC (International Integrated Report Committee) and of the Accounting Standards Advisory Forum (ASAF) of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).

He has degrees in both Accounting and Law from the University of São Paulo and a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the Manchester Business School. He is a Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA).
