Join MSc Financial Management Course Director, Amadeo De Cesari, for this interactive online event to explore the drivers of mergers and acquisitions bids. Full synopsis below:
It has recently been announced that Twitter’s board has accepted Elon Musk’s offer to take over the company and the market has reacted quite positively to the news. Is this positive reaction a sign that takeovers create value for shareholders and the wider society? In this lecture, we will describe what we know about mergers and acquisitions drawing from recent, rigorous academic studies. We will analyse the reasons behind and the drivers of mergers and acquisitions bids, alongside a description of recent studies that highlight whether stock market investors benefit from takeovers. We will also pay some attention to the so-called “killer acquisitions” that aim to target competitors and discontinue their operations.
The session will be facilitated by the Recruitment Manager for MSc Financial Management, Chris Healy, who will be available to answer your programme and admission questions after the main presentation.
