Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards are having an increasing impact on financial markets. Economic and social upheaval, along with factors such as the collapse of oil prices, have pushed responsible and impactful investing further into mainstream finance. CEO of Dubai-based deVere Group Nigel Green pointed out at the beginning of the year that ESG investing would reshape the investment landscape in this new decade – and this phenomenon has certainly accelerated in the current climate.

ESG programs are now critical components of a company’s strategy and business planning. Experts at Alliance Manchester Business School will explore how the narrative around ESG has evolved. With sectors such as auditing facing renewed scrutiny, companies are not only being benchmarked against their financial statements, but also on their corporate resilience and on the sustainability of the relationship between the company and the environmental and societal framework in which it operates. They will also explore how markets respond to firms with high ESG ratings, and why businesses nowadays are focusing more on the needs of their stakeholders.
