Andy Burnham
Andy Burnham was elected Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2017 and was re-elected for a second term in May 2021.
Prior to being Mayor, Andy was MP for Leigh from 2001. In Government, Andy has held Ministerial positions at the Home Office, Department of Health and the Treasury.
In 2008 he became Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, before returning to Health as Secretary of State in 2009.
In opposition, Andy has served as Shadow Education Secretary, Shadow Health Secretary and Shadow Home Secretary.
Steve Rotheram
Steve Rotheram was elected as the first Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region in 2017.
Starting his political career as a councillor of Fazakerley in 2002, Steve was later elected as an MP for the Liverpool Walton constituency in 2010.
During his time in Parliament, he led on many campaigns including justice for the Hillsborough families and compensation for those suffering from mesothelioma and asbestosis to name a few.
In opposition, Steve served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Corbyn before successfully being nominated to be Labour’s candidate for Metro Mayor for the Liverpool City Region.
During his time as Mayor Steve has overseen almost a billion pound of investment in the region.
