What to expect at the start of your student journey

The 2022 Post Graduate session is around the corner and I am hopeful that you all aspirants are excited and worried at the same time, as I was last year. Firstly, heartfelt congratulations to the MSc Management class of 2022 and I can assure you that studying this course will develop the more comprehensive business management skills, you aim for.

Being from an engineering background, completing an undergrad in my home country Pakistan in Chemical Engineering. I was ambitious to seek a degree in business management to follow my passion for developing business dealing skills and diversify my career options.

After getting an offer from AMBS, I set to make plans for my higher education and travelling abroad. During the process, the University of Manchester was of great help, with their monthly newsletters, uni-buddy scheme, and scheduling online seminars for international students to guide us regarding, travelling and accommodation. Since the world was still under the pandemic impact, I was worried that this year too, the classes would be online and I might miss the chance of meeting my fellow batchmates and be deprived of making new friends. Thankfully, that was not the case and so far the course went pretty smoothly with the hybrid mode of study. Starting MSc Management was fairly easy, after being registered we were set up with our own university email and My Manchester account. The communications of the course professor(s) and what was expected from us during the lectures were explicitly communicated to us regularly with every detail of the courses available on the BlackBoard.

Prior to the beginning of semester one teaching, we had a welcome week, where the course coordinator had a session with the whole class and listed down the guidelines and policies of UoM and AMBS, with a course introduction and other services available for us students, such career connects. The beginning of the teaching week was also well organized with the introduction of the course outline, modules, mode of exams, and seminar details. All this set up the momentum for the whole academic session as we identified what to expect from the program and what should be our input to the classroom and during our studies.

I understand this time is a nervous period with plenty of doubts back of the head, but it is going to be a fine ride and University is there with immense support during the term time, and get your warm clothes ready for Manchester.
