Study abroad with BSc International Management: Boost your global career

Go beyond the theory and dive into real world experience with BSc International Management at AMBS.

BSc International Management (IM) offers the opportunity to study key management theories with a global lens. Then, put this theory into practice and gain international experience when you spend a year at one of our 36 partner institutions.

In an increasingly competitive job market, employers are looking for graduates with a global vision, an ability to adapt quickly and communicate effectively across cultures. Spending a year abroad while studying is not just an exciting adventure, but also a strategic career move.

Whether you're studying with a beachfront view in California, hitting the slopes in Whistler, riding the Australian surf between lectures, soaking up the energy of fashion week in Milan or Paris, or experiencing the thrill of the Grand Prix in Singapore, the possibilities to explore are endless.

In a recent Financial Times article, Andrew Crisp, co-founder of business education research body CarringtonCrisp, mentions that the ability to “thrive and prosper in an environment outside your comfort zone, to face uncertainty daily, is of great value to employers today."

It’s a chance to build on the theoretical foundation of the programme, gaining first-hand experience of cross-cultural communications and differing business operations.

Career benefits

Employers are placing increased importance on graduates with global management skills and for good reason. A year abroad demonstrates adaptability, cultural awareness and problem-solving; all essential for success in today’s global economy.

Not only did 94% of our International Management students achieve a 1st or 2:1 degree in 2024 but earning potential increases by 8.3% for graduates who study abroad, according to national data (HEFCE).

Students can further enhance their employability by securing a summer internship in their study destination.

I studied in Barcelona and interned at a local PR agency in the summer. This gave me the opportunity to interact with clients on a global scale.

Networking

One of the most valuable aspects of studying abroad as part of your degree is the global network you build. Learn from academics from around the world and find friends from all corners of the globe, crafting meaningful connections that will last a lifetime. As noted by Andrew Crisp, “Many students will have good domestic networks, but add in an international network and again there is a notable career benefit.”

Nothing will ever beat this year – without a doubt the best 12 months of my life with the most incredible people you could ever meet – I would relive it 1,000 times if I could!

Personal growth

Studying BSc International Management is an excellent opportunity to increase your confidence. The experience teaches you a lot about yourself and forces you to increase your independence, navigating a new culture, new language and unfamiliar social situations. While the opportunity pushes you outside your comfort zone, it allows you to build the skills employers value most – critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and independence.

I really appreciated my year in Italy since it not only gave me an advantage in job hunting and future career planning, but most importantly, it really made me stronger and more independent and made me who I am right now.

You will be taught in English during your time abroad, but you can also choose to study 20 credits in the local language to immerse yourself fully in the culture. Developing language skills not only enriches your experience but also makes you stand out to employers, opening doors to international roles and global career opportunities.

Probably the most valuable experience of my life so far - to understand, you have to experience it.
