Dorella Chu Rapizza
MBA Candidate - Alliance Manchester Business School Class 2016
The Foundation in Business Administration and English is an intensive programme delivered across four weeks. It is designed to prepare young executives and recent graduates for an MBA or similar postgraduate course in the UK.
Why were you interested in the programme?
I was interested in the programme because I wanted to learn about topics that I could focus on in the MBA. I spoke to people from the previous year’s MBA class who recommended the Foundation in Business Administration and English as it would help me to understand my future classes on the MBA.
What did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed the cultural visits, in particular to the City Library because of the history and art here. We also had networking meetings with retired military on Alliance MBS’s Advanced Management Achievement Course who shared impressive stories about the military services. In addition, I enjoyed the presentation assignments where I could learn from my classmates from other countries, such as Indonesia and China.
Have you managed to put into practice what you learnt?
Yes, it was very useful for me in my financial accounting and management accounting courses on the MBA because I had previous knowledge about the topic areas from my time on the foundation course. Moreover, I could interact easily with my new classmates on the MBA because I was more confident during networking sessions.
Why would you recommend the programme to others?
I’d recommend the programme to new MBA candidates and students who have not yet decided to take an MBA because the programme gives you a general view about the specific areas you will study. The programme also helps you to understand how UK business works especially through the guest speaker sessions with impressive entrepreneurs.
The programme helped me to improve my communication skills and develop new skills that were useful during my MBA.
