Manchester Institute of Innovation Research

Manchester is a pioneer in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training in science and technology policy, innovation studies, and innovation and technology management.

As one of the largest Institutes of its kind, we provide unrivalled study opportunities. Not only are our academics leading exponents at the forefront of their fields, but they are closely engaged with practical policy, management and innovation challenges in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, both in the UK and globally.

StudyUndergraduate teaching

Members of the Institute contribute to a range of undergraduate course units on innovation and technology management, science policy studies, and sustainability issues.  These are delivered through the BSc Management (Innovation, Sustainability and Entrepreneurship) through course units offered to students across the University via Business and Management for all Programmes (BMaP), and via the University College for Interdisciplinary Learning.

Masters level

Members of the Institute teach on several Masters’ programmes across MBS and the wider University, including on the MSc Innovation  Management and Entrepreneurship. This course provides a unique combination of fundamental academic insights into the dynamics of innovation and entrepreneurship, aligned with an understanding of the practical challenges of being an innovative entrepreneur.

We also contribute to the new MSc in Science Communication being offered by the University of Manchester through the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine. This programme introduces perspectives on the roles of science and technology in society from history and sociology of science and technology, together with an insight into the practical challenges of communicating science and making science policy.

Doctoral research

With leading scholars as supervisors, and a large doctoral school closely integrated into the life of the Institute, we offer an unrivalled environment in which to conduct doctoral research in the areas of science and technology policy, innovation studies, technology and innovation management, and sustainability & transition studies.
